Minimum drink prices, restricted happy hours among new policies to curb binge
drinking

Beginning August 1, new province-wide rules will eliminate cheap drink specials, regulate the
duration of ‘happy hours’ and limit last-call drink orders in licensed premises. -
The amendments to Alberta
Gaming and Liquor Commission policies are designed to make provincial drinking establishments safer for
staff and patrons.
New council to coordinate provincial efforts to combat liquor related violence

Creating a safe environment for patrons and staff at bars
and nightclubs in Alberta is the goal of the new Alberta
Safer Bars Council (ASBC). -
The new council will provide input to the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission
(AGLC) on policy development and implementation of best practices to help reduce
the number of violent incidents in and around licensed venues.
