Container Deposits and Recycling Costs
A non-refundable container recycling cost and a refundable container deposit are both assessed on almost every ready-to-drink liquor container sold in Alberta:
- The non-refundable recycling cost covers the net cost to recycle that particular container.
- The refundable container deposit promotes the ongoing return of beverage containers to sustain the recycling program in Alberta.
Both the recycling cost and the refundable deposit are included in the wholesale price paid by each liquor licensee and passed along to the end consumer.
