Reel Facts - Industry Awareness Training

Reel Facts is an online, expanded and updated version of the former Winning Moments VLT responsible gambling awareness training program, developed to instruct employees in licensed establishments with VLTs about responsible gambling, what it is and how to promote healthy attitudes towards gambling.

With its expanded content and examination, the Reel Facts training program also helps retailers and their staff understand how they can provide assistance to customers who may have a gambling problem, in the form of support and referrals.

The Reel Facts training program is available in two formats:

  • Online, as part of the AGLC’s SMART training website (http://reelfacts.aglc.ca), and
  • For VLT retailers and staff without Internet access, Reel Facts is available in DVD-with-manual format. If you require Reel Facts in DVD/manual format, please contact the AGLC’s Social Responsibility division at 780 447-7420.

Certification

As with its predecessor, Winning Moments, completion of the Reel Facts responsible gambling awareness training program is mandatory in order to receive a certificate of program completion from the AGLC. For those staff working in licensed premises where their duties include working with the VLTs and patrons, this training must be completed within three months of commencing employment. A passing grade of 80% on the Reel Facts exam is required in order to receive a certificate of program completion.

The AGLC is requiring all VLT retailers and their staff to certify/re-certify based on the Reel Facts program – through either the online or the DVD/manual version – by January 1, 2010.

Responsible gambling awareness training has been mandatory for Alberta’s VLT retailers and staff since 1999.
