Responsible Gambling

Many people feel that purchasing lottery tickets is not a serious form of gambling and that minors should be allowed to play. While lottery tickets can be a fun form of entertainment, they should be restricted to adults only. Research shows that minors are three times more likely to develop gambling problems than an adult.

AGLC
The AGLC is committed to responsible gambling. To help gaming licensees and the public meet the social responsibility requirements set out in legislation, regulation and policy, the AGLC has developed a number of programs and initiatives, including Deal Us In responsible gambling awareness training for casino and REC staff, Responsible Gambling Information Centres (RGICs) in casinos and RECs, the Voluntary Self-Exclusion (VSE) Program and Responsible Gambling Awareness Week (RGAW).

Problem and Responsible Gambling Strategy

The Alberta Lottery Fund provides funding towards the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission's (AADAC’s) budget for gambling and liquor addiction education, prevention and treatment programs and services.

The purpose of the 2005/2006 AGLC/AADAC Problem and Responsible Gambling Strategy is to continually review emerging trends and issues in the areas of problem and responsible gambling to ensure a mutual understanding and commitment to related priorities and actions.
